THIS WEEK - "AltAusterity: Coping is Not Enough" - Conference in Berlin, Germany

From "Austerity and its Alternatives", a SSHRC PDG won by Canada Research Chair, Dr. Stephen McBride (Political Science), comes the grant's third annual conference which will take place on February 21-22, 2019 in Berlin, Germany.

Feb 19, 2019

We are less than two days away from this grant's third annual conference, this year called, "AltAusterity: Coping is Not Enough". This year McMaster is co-hosting this event with the Berlin-based Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Foundation. The goal is to create a space wherein salient questions are tabled and widely discussed with academics and practitioners from all over the world.

How do social and economic relations change under conditions of permanent austerity? How do international, national, and regional political institutions influence the development of austerity-regimes? What commonalities and difference exist between nations? And which alternatives exist to overcome the status quo of austerity politics?  To analyze the causes, connections, and effects of this new age of austerity-capitalism, we need a broad debate that questions dominating paradigms, discusses political alternatives, and develops new and far-reaching perspectives.
