What did a typical day or week look like in your role?
A typical day in my role varied depending on the project I was working on. I spent a lot of time independently developing eLearning content, incorporating feedback, and managing project tasks, while also collaborating with my team and subject matter experts through meetings and discussions. Throughout the week, I balanced multiple projects and worked to create training that supports employee learning and development.
Which skills do you feel you developed through your experience in this co-op work term?
The most important skill I developed during my co-op was project management. Leading my own eLearning projects taught me how to stay organized, manage deadlines, and coordinate every stage of a project. Working closely with subject matter experts and my team helped me become a more confident communicator, and balancing multiple projects strengthened my time management and organization skills.
How did this co-op work term shape your career planning? What is your career/field of interest? Did this role help support your career goals?
During my time at OPG, I discovered that I enjoy leading projects and collaborating with different teams to bring ideas to life and create meaningful impact, especially within the public sector.
What would you tell other students considering a co-op or internship work experience?
I would encourage every student to consider a co-op or internship if they have the opportunity. Being a student is one of the best times to gain real-world experience, and many employers hire students because they genuinely want to help them learn, grow, and succeed. A co-op gives you the chance to explore different roles, industries, and career paths before graduating, while also providing insight into the less talked about aspects of a job that are important to consider. This includes the work environment you thrive in and the kind of team and culture that best fits you.
I know many students feel pressure to graduate as quickly as possible, but I believe taking the time to complete a co-op is well worth it. Alternating between school and work makes the transition into a full-time job smooth, while allowing you to build valuable skills, meaningful connections, and confidence.
My co-op experience has given me a level of confidence that I didn’t have before, and I know I’ll enter the workforce feeling more prepared and capable because of it.
