Community-engaged research in the Faculty of Social Sciences

The Faculty of Social Sciences is embarking on an exciting new initiative to develop a Community Research Platform that will support and foster existing and new research partnerships between our faculty and local community organizations.

Apr 02, 2020

The goal of the platform is to provide the infrastructure and institutional support to build ongoing, mutually beneficial research collaborations that leverage our faculty’s research strengths and are responsive to the research needs of our local community.  In an effort to identify, highlight and recognize current community-engaged research partnerships within our Faculty, we are working with the Experts database platform to include new fields to capture CER and will also be developing a linked map to visually display this data.  This is a pilot project within FSS but can be extended to include other Faculties in the future. We are consulting with faculty members, key community organizations, and the Office of Community Engagement to develop a process and list of organizations interested in forming a Community Research Platform. For each organization, we are bringing together faculty members with aligned interests as a community of practice to both support and engage with the platform.

If you are interested in hearing more about the Community Research Platform or would like to be involved please email Leora Sas van der Linden, Program Manager, Community Research Platform at
