Academics

What will fall online at McMaster look like?

Courses will be delivered in one of three formats.

  • Online courses: All materials (lectures, assignments, exams) will be posted on Avenue to Learn (A2L) for you to view and complete asynchronously.
  • Virtual courses: This format uses ‘live’ sessions using Zoom or a similar technology. Students need to be present at the scheduled time of the lectures, participate in discussions and may have exams.
  • Mixed courses: A blend of the first two formats. For example, an instructor may post lectures on A2L that can be viewed at any time (asynchronous), along with 'live' tutorials students will attend on given days. Exams may also be held during the regularly scheduled class time.

Instructors will provide information on the format of the course on their course outlines which will be available on department/program websites prior to the start of Fall term.
