An actively engaged community of students

The welcoming and collegial atmosphere in the Department of Health, Aging & Society supports our vibrant group of graduate students to help them achieve academic, professional, and personal success

New Graduate Student Orientation

At the beginning of each academic year, we host an orientation session for all new graduate students in the Department of Health, Aging & Society.  This event introduces incoming students to the department and the routine of graduate school as we discuss programs, courses, resources, and other information to help students in the first year of their graduate program.

Department Meet & Greet

We host a Meet & Greet reception for all new and returning faculty, staff, and graduate students at the beginning of September.  The Meet & Greet is an opportunity for new students to get to know returning students and faculty members of the department.

Scholarly and Social Events in the Department

The graduate school experience includes opportunities for students to participate in both scholarly and social events in the Department.  There are many events throughout the year in which graduate students can get involved.

During the academic year, we host a speaker series that invites interesting presenters to speak about current topics in health and/or aging.  These monthly talks are attended by our graduate students, who are also encouraged to suggest potential guests and help plan future talks.

Around the holiday season, the Department hosts a holiday luncheon, which is attended by faculty, staff, and graduate students.

Our graduate students also typically get together informally as a group at various times throughout the year.

Student Initiatives and Groups

Our graduate students are actively engaged in a variety of student-led groups and initiatives, which include:
