North American Basic Income Guarantee Congress to take place in Hamilton, Ontario from May 24-27, 2018

Save the dates! The 17th Annual North American Basic Income Congress (NABIG) will be held May 24-27 at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

Oct 05, 2017

Being organized by a Canadian-American team including representatives of Basic Income Canada Network, U.S. Basic Income Guarantee Network, McMaster University, and the Hamilton Poverty Roundtable, next year’s Congress will bring together basic income advocates and researchers, students, policy makers, and others from North America and around the world. The general theme of NABIG 2018 will be on moving from the 'why' of basic income to the 'how.'

NABIG 2018 will be an especially important and influential event, not least due to upcoming Ontario and federal elections where income security is an issue. Many international eyes are on Canada because we government interest and action on basic income in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. Hamilton itself is a basic income pilot site. Municipal interest is high across the continent and beyond, from San Francisco to Barcelona.

Hamilton’s Mayor Fred Eisenberger is fully on board: "The idea of a universal basic income is gaining traction, and I am pleased that next year's NABIG, which brings together hundreds of advocates, academics and government representatives from across the continent, is being held in Hamilton. Our City is increasingly becoming a focal point for progressive social policy discussion."

Keep checking the BCIN website for updates and, in due course, how to register.
