Skills Lab

Working with Data 1 - Descriptive Statistics

This skills lab will provide students with training in the fundamentals of descriptive statistics such that they can competently assess evidence which relies on statistical analysis.

Working with Data 2 - Casual Inference

This skills lab develops the capacity to use data in order to estimate causal relationships between two or more variables.

Working with Data 3 - Data Visualization

This skills lab develops techniques and algorithms for creating data visualizations that engage diverse audiences in the process of analytic thinking.

Working with Code 1 - Introduction to Web Development

This skills lab will provide students with an opportunity to learn the basics of full-stack web development and gain an understanding of how the pieces fit together.

Working with Code 2 - Introduction to Database Systems

This skills lab will provide students with a foundation in data management concepts and database systems. Topics include representing information with the relational database model, manipulating data with an interactive query language SQL and database programming, database development including internet applications, and database security, integrity and privacy issues.

Working with Code 3 - Introduction to Front-End with Java Script

This skills lab will provide students with an opportunity to learn how to build and style websites and landing pages using HTML, CSS & JavaScript. Students will learn the core principles of responsive design, and leverage JavaScript to build dynamic and interactive sites.

Leadership 1 - Project Management

This skills lab provides an overview of the essential tools needed to deliver successful projects on time and on budget. Students will learn the fundamental principles of project management such as project initiation, project definition, creation of work breakdown structures, scheduling using Gantt charts and network diagrams, risk management, budgeting and controlling resources, quality assurance, auditing and project termination.

Leadership 2 - Product Management

This skills lab will orient students to the organizational function of being a "product manager" within a technology company or government ministry. Topics include new product development, design thinking, business justification, planning, verification, forecasting pricing, procurement, product launch, and the marketing of a product or products at all stages of the product lifecycle.

Leadership 3 - Stakeholder Management

This skills lab will introduce the practical and theoretical aspects of influencing, negotiating and communicating with all types and levels of stakeholders.

Fundamentals of Writing

This skills lab provides a review of the essential elements of grammar: punctuation, style, and mechanics. Its objective is to develop professional writing competencies such that students are able to produce clear, succinct, and grammatically correct material.
