McMaster students host Filipino solidarity gathering after Vancouver Lapu Lapu Day tragedy

In the aftermath of the fatal attack on the Lapu Lapu Day festival in Vancouver on the weekend, McMaster students are organizing an event of solidarity and remembrance for the community.
A student-led collective comprising Filipino McMaster Social Work students and faculty, the McMaster Filipino Network, and the Filipino McMaster Student Association has formed in the wake of this tragedy to create a space for the community to gather and collectively mourn.
The event, entitled “Tuloy po kayo: Gathering in community grief, love, and solidarity,” will be held on Saturday, May 10, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Office of Community Engagement, at 8 Mayfair Cres., Hamilton.
“Tuloy po kayo” means “come in (to our house)” in Tagalog. All community members are welcome, including students from McMaster, Mohawk College, and Hamilton high schools.
Organizers ask attendees to consider contributing a monetary donation in lieu of flowers. All proceeds will be donated to verified GoFundMes organized for the victims and their families.
Updates regarding the event will be made available through the Instagram account @tuloykayo2025.
