This year, McMaster retains its rank as Canada’s sixth best medical/doctoral university. The University ranks second in the country for total research dollars received, behind only University of Toronto.

For many years, a high level of student satisfaction on campus has contributed to McMaster’s strong position in the Maclean’s rankings. This year is no different, McMaster ranks fourth in the country for student satisfaction and fourth for quality course instruction.

“Measuring the quality and impact of any university is an ongoing and complex process,” says McMaster President Patrick Deane. “Certainly, rankings are one part of the overall picture and we are once again pleased to see McMaster place amongst the best in the country. This is a direct result of the hard work of our students and alumni, the commitment to excellence in teaching, research and innovation on the part of our faculty, and the support and leadership of our staff."

McMaster is ranked as Canada’s 7th best university in terms of overall reputation when compared to all 49 universities coast-to-coast.

Maclean’s assesses universities on several key factors and directly surveys students as part of its process. In that survey, McMaster students ranked the University in the top tier in several areas, including provision of mental health services and steps to prevent sexual assault.

“It is important that we continue to work to provide these kinds of priority services,” says Sean Van Koughnett, dean of students. “Together with students and our community partners, we are focussed on a healthy and supportive campus environment.”
