Undergraduate student participants needed for a Wellness Study

Undergraduate student participants needed for a Wellness Study

Would you like to participate in a proactive wellness study exploring the impact of online group verbal or music therapy for the management of stress and anxiety?

Apr 29, 2021

Purpose of the Study

We are exploring how online group therapy can improve two major components of mental health (anxiety and stress) in undergraduate university students. Music interventions are not part of the standard of care for mental health and well-being and we are exploring this alternative. This study compares online music therapy groups to online verbal-based group therapy. Anxiety and stress outcomes will be measured using standardized assessments and physiological measures (heart rate variability from an app for your phone and cortisol from a sample of your hair. The data from this study has the potential to help inform proactive mental health support for undergraduate students on campus.

Procedures involved in the Research

If you choose to participate in this study you will be randomly assigned to 1 of 5 groups.
1) Online Music Therapy Group – Active interventions (Tuesdays, 5-6)
2) Online Music Therapy Group – Active interventions (Thursdays, 5-6)
3) Online Verbal-based Therapy Group (Thursdays, 5-6)
4) Wait listed group
5) Control group
If you are assigned to one of the therapy groups, you will be asked to commit to attending the group each week for six weeks, as per the day/time stated above. If you are assigned to the Wait listed or Control group, you will be asked to participate in data collection on week 1 and 6 of the study. ( Week 1: May 10, Week 6: June 14 )
