Welcome to the 2021/22 Academic Year!

The Faculty of Social Sciences welcomes you back to McMaster!

Sep 03, 2021

Welcome! Whether you're new to the McMaster community or returning once again, we're excited to have you join the Faculty of Social Sciences. With the fall semester just around the corner, we wanted to share some important updates and resources for students. Thank you for your patience as policies and procedures continue to evolve.

A reminder that the Back to Mac website continues to be an excellent resource for any return to campus questions.

Building and Office Hours

  • Buildings on campus are now open 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.
  • Starting September 7, the FSS Academic Advising offices will be open in KTH 129, with limited capacity 9 a.m. - noon and 1 - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday. Advising services will remain by appointment only, and requests can be made online through the portal.
  • Department and Program Offices are open three days per week and will post contact information on their door and websites to indicate when those spaces are staffed in person and how to contact them to make an appointment as necessary.

Vaccinations and Screening

  • Mandatory vaccinations are required as of September 7 to access the McMaster campus in person. More information can be found here.
  • Between September 7 and October 18, those coming onto campus (or any McMaster facility off the main campus) who are not yet fully vaccinated or who have not received an exemption from the university for a validated human rights ground, will be required to submit proof of a negative COVID-19 test result twice a week.
  • McMaster has an onsite testing facility available to those who are not vaccinated or partially vaccinated. This facility will be open as of September 7. The testing facility is located in the McMaster University Student Centre. More details regarding how to get your rapid COVID-19 test on campus coming soon.
  • A new digital tool called MacCheck will be available for staff, faculty, and students to: (1) submit proof of vaccination or exemption, and (2) complete daily COVID-19 screenings or test results. More details about this are coming soon.

  • Masks remain mandatory in all indoor spaces, as well as outdoors where physical distancing is not possible.

Back to Mac Guides

  • Student-focused Back to Mac Guides will be available by the start of term and can be accessed through the Back to Mac website.
  • These guides will feature practical tips, as well as important health and safety information for starting the new fall term.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all back on campus once again!
