Political Science PhD Student named "runner-up" in the CPSA three-minute thesis competition

PhD student Samantha Jackson took home a runner up prize from the Canadian Political Science Association (CPSA) three-minute thesis competition. The competition challenges participants to present their graduate research to non-specialist judges in three minutes or less.

In 1981, Paula Turner, with no money and no support system, was forced to leave university. Today, she will walk across McMaster’s convocation stage to receive her degree in anthropology, completing a journey that began 36 years ago.

Social Work Community Mourns the Loss of Mel Basbaum

Mel Basbaum spent most of his career as a social worker with Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation and continued working after retiring in private practice and as an Employee Assistance Counsellor. Throughout his life, Mel was also very active as a volunteer with many community organizations, committees and boards. Mel passed away suddenly on May 29 in his 75th year. He will be very missed in the local social work community.

This year’s annual President’s Awards for Outstanding Service reception took place on May 30, with 11 awards, honouring 103 members of the McMaster community who have made an outstanding contribution to the mission of the University.
