Women, ART and the Criminalization of HIV (WATCH HIV)

Biography

Rebecca (Becky) Gormley is the WATCH Research Coordinator in BC. Originally from Alberta, Becky began her journey focusing on women’s health and well-being outcomes by volunteering and interning with sexual assault centers and feminist driven non-profit organizations. The opportunity to work and volunteer with these organizations allowed Becky to begin to recognize how intersectionality and social locations affect how individuals navigate their communities and relationships, and the resulting health and well-being outcomes. This prompted her to pursue a Master’s of Public Health at Simon Fraser University, to further her understanding and application of the intersections and impacts of social inequities on women’s health outcomes. Through her studies she was introduced to community based and arts-based research methodologies, and had the opportunity to explore how pictures, sketches, and colours can be powerful tools in advocacy and storytelling. She is a firm believer that everyone can create art, and is excited to have the chance to work with and learn from so many different and amazing women in the WATCH Study.
