Department of Economics

My name is Harresh and I graduated from McMaster with a B.A. in Economics in 2016, and an M.A. in Economic Policy in 2018. After my master’s, I worked with the Ontario Ministry of Health and currently work at the Ministry of Economic Development where I assist in the design, implementation and evaluation of various government-funded programs.

In the Economics program, you’re always learning something new due to the wide variety of courses that intersect with other disciplines such as health, environment and labour. Throughout the program, I have also become more aware of the different career paths that economics offers such as working in policy, consulting and research in both the public and private sector.

The professors at McMaster were great as they would not only provide support for their own courses but were also supportive when discussing career paths and post-secondary education. The pedagogical approach taken to incorporate real-world work into the courses was beneficial as well, providing students with practical experience before entering the workforce. One piece of advice that I would give to first years is to reach out to professors and other students in the Economics program to be more aware of the potential career paths you can take.
