Congratulations Political Science undergraduate Eric Lim for winning the USRA summer award!

Political Science undergraduate student, Eric Lim, wins the McMaster University Summer Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) for the summer term!

Mar 02, 2018

Is China’s rapid economic and military rise creating a security dilemma in East Asia? Under Dr. Netina Tan’s supervision, Political Science undergraduate Eric Lim will study the official white papers released by the defense ministries of Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan in the time period of 2000-2017 to understand the security impact and changes in government perceptions towards China’s rise. He will use the qualitative analysis software NVivo to code and analyze changes in sentiments, attitudes and postures of the countries. He expects to find that the countries view China’s military rise as a threat and are engaged in balancing behaviour to counteract it.

The McMaster Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA) are intended to cultivate and support research partnerships between undergraduate students and faculty members. The award provides students with an opportunity to receive funds to cover research-based activity during the Fall/Winter or Summer Term.

Here’s wishing you all success on your summer research project, Eric!
