Dr. Roman March

In Memoriam, Dr. Roman March

With regret, we note the passing of Political Science Professor Emeritus Dr. Roman March.

Feb 23, 2018

With regret, we note the passing of Dr. Roman March. Dr. March was the first Canadian-born member of our Department. He served 25 years as an associate professor, retiring in the 1990s. After his retirement, Dr. March maintained a strong link with the university community through his participation in the McMaster University Retirees Association.

In 2009, he received the Milner Memorial Award from the Canadian Association of University Teachers in recognition of his distinguished contribution to academic freedom. More specifically, Dr. March, along with fifteen of his colleagues, had the courage to resign his post at University College in Winnipeg in 1958, in protest of the dismissal of the historian Harry Crowe.

The department sends its condolences to Dr. March's family and loved ones.
