Michelle Dion co-chairs conference supporting women in the field of political methodology

Experts from North America and Europe attend two-day Visions in Methodology conference at McMaster University.

May 22, 2014

More than 50 women graduate students and faculty members specializing in political methodologies from across Canada, the US, and Europe gathered at McMaster University from May 20-22 for the annual Visions in Methodology (VIM) conference.

The conference was co-chaired by McMaster political science Professor Michelle Dion and was sponsored by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the National Science Foundation (U.S.) and McMaster’s Faculty of Social Sciences and Associate Vice-President (Faculty), amongst others.

The conference is part of a broader effort to support women in the field of political methodology, in which they are underrepresented. The conference also provided an opportunity to share scholarly work and recognize the work and research of both Elisabeth Gidengil (McGill University) and Saundra Schneider (Michigan State), who was a Visiting Fulbright Chair in Public Policy in McMaster’s Department of Political
Science this past winter.

The annual conference has been running since 2008. The University of Kentucky will host the 2015 edition.
