PhD Student, Roomana Hukil wins McMaster's International Excellence award!

Political Science PhD student Roomana has been awarded the International Excellence Award to pursue her research on renewable energy policy in China and India!

Sep 22, 2017

McMaster's School of Graduate Studies International Excellence Award was created in 2008 to recognize the outstanding contributions of international graduate students.

Roomana’s research examines the divergences in environmental efficiency and state capacity towards renewable energy policy in China and India. Her project investigates how regime type, grassroots activism and decentralised authority shape the politics of environmental reform in the global South. She aims to compare and re-conceptualize the strategies and sectoral variation in renewable energy policy outcomes in the two countries. Based on a comparative historical institutionalist approach, she intends to highlight the critical role of transnational advocacy networks and international norms diffusion in shaping the state’s policy position toward climate change. Additionally, her work also hopes to offer recommendations on more effective approaches to reducing the needs for coal and other fossil fuel energy needs in the global South.

Congratulations Roomana Hukil for receiving this well-deserving award!
