Privacy in the "Smart City"

What do new "smart city" technologies mean for our privacy? Can we balance our right to privacy with the benefits of having a networked city?

Jul 24, 2018

McMaster Department of Political Science PhD candidate Angela Orasch and Canada Research Chair in Communications Policy and Governance Sara Bannerman are finding out, with help from a grant from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. They will study the technologies in use in five of Canada's largest cities, as well as survey Canadians to get a sense of citizen awareness of privacy issues.
