Sana Khan named 2024 Social Sciences Internship Student of the Year

During Summer 2024, Sana Khan undertook a paid internship as a Research Assistant at the McMaster Health Forum.
For Sana Khan, one of the most rewarding things about her internship with McMaster Health Forum (MHF) last summer was mentoring her fellow students.
“The internship has been a deeply enriching experience that has allowed me to make a meaningful impact on McMaster students,” said Khan. “One of the most impactful moments of my journey was being invited to be a guest speaker for a third-year co-op class that was deep in their job search, to share my personal internship experiences and provide valuable insights.
“I served as a co-op mentor, helping students with co-op issues and job searching, and shared my workplace’s valuable resources that foster students’ academic growth.”
For her work as a research assistant at MHF, Khan was named the 2024 Social Sciences Intern of the Year.
As part of the placement, Khan introduced two resources to students: the MHF’s databases ‘Health Systems Evidence’ and ‘Social Systems Evidence’, which contain an extensive range of research articles that offer valuable academic resources for students of all faculties.
And Khan said the response from the students showed just how important that work was.
“After introducing these databases to students, many told me that they were going to use them to enhance their personal learning and support their academic work,” she said. “By showcasing how my workplace’s resources were valuable to students, I helped foster academic enrichment.
“I am grateful for my internship experience that allowed me to support and encourage my peers and look forward to continuing to share my insights and help students in the future.”
