Social Work PhD Student Stephanie Milliken awarded the Order of Hamilton

For Social Work PhD student Stephanie Milliken, this year’s New Year’s Levee in Hamilton was unforgettable.
On January 17, Milliken was honored with the prestigious Order of Hamilton, presented by Mayor Andrea Horwath in recognition of Milliken’s outstanding contributions to the city.
The Order of Hamilton is awarded to individuals whose voluntary contributions have significantly enhanced the well-being of the community and enriched the city.
“I feel honoured that friends whose opinions I value highly would nominate me for this award, and that I have been recognized alongside nine remarkable people in this community,” said Milliken. “I love Hamilton – and I am inspired by the smart, courageous people I work and volunteer with in this community every day.”
Alongside her PhD, which is exploring the engagement of frontline workers in the homelessness support sector in policymaking processes, Milliken works at YWCA Hamilton and is Secretary on the Board of Directors at the Substance Overdose Prevention and Education Network.
Mayor Horwath said the award recognized those who have served the city.
“The Order of Hamilton is a profound honour that reflects the spirit of service, dedication, and leadership that defines our great city,” said Horwath. “It is important that we recognize and celebrate Hamiltonians who contribute so meaningfully to building community and improving the lives of our residents, which is precisely what the Order of Hamilton sets out to do.”
