In pictures: 2023 Social Sciences Convocation
“If your past self could have a glimpse of where you are today they would be jumping off the walls with joy. Because no matter what obstacle small or large you endured; you were able to learn from it, destroy it or move on from it.” – Salsa Sarhan, 2023 Social Sciences Valedictorian.
Safe to say, the class of 2023 had an unusual path to convocation. With the pandemic forcing students off campus and onto new technologies, this cohort of students certainly had to endure a lot of obstacles.
But on Wednesday, June 14, faculty, staff, esteemed guests and family members crowded into the Hamilton Convention Centre to celebrate all of the hard work and success of our latest round of graduates.
Valedictorians Salsa Sarhan and Elizabeth Wong delivered speeches in the morning and afternoon sessions, respectively, as did honorary doctorates Wanda Thomas Bernard and Andy Knight.
“Our world became something out of a science textbook two years ago and when we came back to this campus, we had to learn how to live and learn with one another again. It was not easy. But, we came back and tried new things and failed and tried other things and then succeeded.”– Elizabeth Wong, 2023 Social Sciences Valedictorian.
